WHAT IS A TUBE FURNACE?

Tube furnace also called Tubular furnace, is an electric heating device specially heating on smaller samples. Features full cylindrical chamber or two semi-cylindrical chambers lining with high alumina fibers and powerful all round heaters ensure a good temperature uniformity; Vacuum tubes with SS KF flanges make the vacuum pumping and gas purging available. Microprocessor PID controlled, fast heating and cooling with low energy consumption. Quartz furnace tube diameter ranges from 25mm to 300mm, while alumina tube ranges 25-100mm with max temperature up to 1700°C.

WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF TUBE FURNACE

There are many types of tube furnaces, generally, it can be classified into several catagories as bellow:

  • Firstly, based on Working Temperature ranges: 30-1100°C tube furnaces, 1200-1400°C tube furnaces and 1300-1700°C tube furnaces.
  • Secondly, based on Constructed Structures and configurations: split, non-split, vertical, horizontal, quartz, alumina, rotary, tilting, multi-station, gradient (1 zone, 2 zone, 3 zone, multi-zone), benchtop / table top tube furnaces.
  • Thirdly, based on Heat Treatment Processes: vacuum, atmosphere, CVD, PECVD, Pyrolysis tube furnaces etc

WHAT IS APPLICATION RANGES FOR A TUBE FURNACE?

Tube furnace is a professional heating device mainly used in metallurgy, glass, heat treatment, lithium battery anode and cathode materials, nano materials, new energy, abrasive tools and other industries to determine the materials under vacuum or certain atmospheric conditions. Heat treatment applications including syntheses and purifications, oxidation, diffusion, calcination, thermal annealing of inorganic or organic compounds in labs and industrial.

WHY CHOOSE A TUBE FURNACE INSTEAD OF A MUFFLE FURNACE?

Tube furnaces are specially used for processing smaller samples. Sealed working tubes both protect the furnace chamber from contamination and available to pump vacuum or maintain atmospheres inside while a muffle / chamber furnace can not. Ring type heating ensures a uniformity temperature, generally achieves to +/-5°C.

HOW TO CHOOSE A TUBE FURNACE?

Choosing a right tube furnace is important to your heat treatments performance. It will help you make the right choice by following the bellow suggestions:

  • Confirm working temperature range firstly: as mentioned on above, a tube furnace was classified into three catagories based on temperature range, namely 30-1100°C, 1200-1300°C, 1400-1700°C. By this mean, it is important to know the actual working temperature of the loaded materials (soft point or melting point), for it affects the heat treatment reuslts much. In addition, price and furnace structures differs much among temperature ranges
  • Needed chamber size with tube diameter and length: A suitable working space will improve the heating performance and cost less
  • Kind of processed materials: The processed materials affect the furnace configurations. For example, heated samples generated with corrosive gases during the heating should equip a gas filter system
  • Furnace chamber working conditions: Sometimes, the processed conditions affect the furnace structure. For example, kind of atmospheres, vacuum level etc.
