Using attentions for high temperature muffle furnace with MoSi2 rods

  • MoSi2 (Silicon molybdenum rod) heating element is made of molybdenum disilicide, which is resistant to high temperature and oxidation. It is suitable for use in air and neutral atmosphere, such as inert gas. It will destroy the protective layer in reducing atmosphere such as hydrogen, and the vapor of chlorine and sulfur will seriously corrode silicon molybdenum rod components. When used in a high temperature oxidizing atmosphere (the temperature is usually above 1300°C), a bright and dense quartz (SiO2) glass film will be formed on the surface, which can protect the inner layer of the silicon molybdenum rod from oxidation. The silicon molybdenum rod element has a unique high temperature oxidation resistance. In an oxidizing atmosphere, the maximum operating temperature is about 1700 ℃, and the resistivity of MoSi2 increases rapidly with the increase of temperature. Under normal circumstances, the resistance of the element does not change with the length of use, so the old and new silicon molybdenum rod heating elements can be mixed. When the temperature of the element is greater than 1700 degrees and the SIO2 protective layer with a melting point of 1710 degrees melts, due to the effect of surface tension, the SIO2 melts into droplets and loses its protective effect. The SIO2 protective layer regenerates when the element continues to be used in an oxidizing atmosphere.
  • The silicon molybdenum rod should not be used for a long time in the temperature range of 400℃—700℃, otherwise the silicon molybdenum rod will be oxidized at low temperature and shorten the service life.
  • When the electric furnace is used for the first time or used again after a long period of non-use, it must be dried in an oven, first at 200 degrees for 2 hours, and then at 600 degrees for 2 hours.
  • When picking up and placing items, the power supply should be cut off first, and the furnace door should be opened when the temperature cools below 200 degrees to avoid burns. (Prugam’s electric furnace is equipped with a power-off to open the door, which can effectively ensure the safety of picking and placing materials)
  • It is strictly forbidden to work under the temperature and working current exceeding the rated value. The temperature of long-term operation should be at least 50 degrees lower than the rated temperature. In vacuum working condition, rough vacuum: 1550C, high level vacuum:1500C
  • It is forbidden to directly pour various liquids and dissolved metals into the furnace, and clean the sanitation in the furnace frequently.
  • After setting the program, start the heating button, the contactor pull-in circuit in the controller is turned on, and the heating starts. The red heating indicator light will pull in regularly according to the power consumption.
  • Intelligent temperature control instrument, the program will automatically stop after running without manual operation.
  • After the experiment is completed, turn off the power button and cut off the main power.
  • Regularly check whether the contact between the electric furnace and the conductive system of the temperature controller is in good condition. (Especial attention should be paid to the connection point of the MoSi2).
